David Martin, a longtime incumbent familiar to many Dubliners, is seeking reelection for Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 in a race against Dionicia Azua in the March 2026 Republican Primary.
Martin has been Justice of the Peace, Precinct 2 since 2023. If he is re-elected, he plans to maintain the efficiency his office has developed in the first four years.
“I want to gain more knowledge of how to do this job better,” he said.
Some of the strengths Martin said he and his office bring to the table includes maintaining an up-to-date criminal and civil docket, as well as a cross-trained staff of professional clerks that are willing to help the public.
“They are knowledgeable and courteous to the public. We are committed to upholding the law with integrity, consistency and respect for due process,” he said.
Martin also stated he maintains his judicial education credits required for Justice of the Peace. JPs are required to have 80 hours the first year, and 20 hours every year after that.
In his 3.5 years in office, he has 162 accredited hours.
His educational background includes graduating from Stephenville High School and attending Tarleton State University.
He retired after 25 years with the Texas Animal Health Commission, with the last two years serving as the supervisor to region 6.
Martin has been married to his wife Rose for 33 years, and they enjoying sharing time with their four kids, 12 grandkids and two great-grand kids.
The JP said he has been in public service most of his life and considers it a calling to help people navigate tough times and also protecting the community.
Though Martin thinks Erath County as a whole is in good shape, he said planning for the future is his primary goal.
“There is good leadership from the County Judge on down through every office. The county offices work together as a team to serve the people of Erath County,” Martin said, regarding the strengths found in the county.
If allowed to serve another term, he hopes to serve in this chain and strengthen it for his neighbors in Precinct 2.
