The Dublin Lions claimed another pair of wins on the home basketball court Monday, June 9 as they continue their summer schedule.
The Lions overtook Brownwood 60-45. “We had some high flying action middle of the game to get the separation that we needed,” said head Lions basketball coach Wes Grisham. “Our guys threw a little mixture of offense to get points up but most important was shot selection. We shot the ball when and where we ‘needed’ to instead of ‘wanted’ to.”
“I think that is something to build on the rest of the summer into next basketball season,” he added. “Overall, I think our hustle and grit just over powered Brownwood.”
The varsity Lions followed that with a 61-28 win over Eastland.
Grisham said Dublin started the game sluggish but benefitted from the team’s size and talent.
“Eventually our defense and fast breaks gave us a huge lead,”he said. “Eastland guys don’t give up though, which is good to see even if it’s our competition.”
The coach was also proud of his team’s sportsmanship, saying his players were helping pick up players or handing a shoe over when a player accidentally kicked it off.
“I think that’s the growth we need and the good karma will come back for us next season,” Grisham said.
The JV Lions also scored wins when they went 45-38 over Comanche and 56-33 over Early.
Grisham said the Comanche game was close until the last 10 minutes when things started clicking and the Lions snuck in some power plays and the defense put the brakes on Comanche.
