The Lingleville School Board adopted a lower tax rate ad ordered school board elections for Nov. 5 during a special meeting Thursday, Aug. 22.
The approved tax rate for 2024-25 is $.9144 per $100 valuation. This is lower than the previous rate of .9570 but due to the rise in appraised values by the appraisal district will still likely mean an increase in taxes raised by the district.
The resolution stated the lower rate will still yield an addition 6% in taxes (or $42.60 on a $100,000 home).
The board also unanimously approved a order of election for school board races in the Nov. 5 general election.
Incumbent Sonya Koke is facing challenger Andrew Grimm in the position 1 race while challenger Jerod James is running against incumbent Larry Griffin for position 3. Justin Wilson and Brent Hallmark are unopposed in their re-elections to seat 2 and 4 respectively. The Citizen will be doing profile stories regarding these candidates before the race.
During the meeting, the board also unanimously approved the 2024-25 budget, amendments to balance the 2023-24 budget and approved staff members for the guardian program following a closed session. Meetings of the Lingleville ISD are typically held the second Thursday of each month.
