Dear Editor,

We have been losing our democracy (our government of the people, by the people and for the people) for at least the last 40 years.

We the people have become tribal and just want our tribe to win without regard to our obligation to preserve our method of responsible, honest governing as established in the constitution. Our American experiment requires the people to be enlightened about government, its structure, its checks and balances, its leadership, its (integrity, intellect, responsibility, expertise, experience) and its institutions.

We have neglected our responsibilities and simply supported our tribal leaders and demanded expeditious results for our tribe without regard to our allowed corruption of the American process of governing a diverse population with competing objectives. Because of our laziness, ignorance and lack of interest, we own the mess we have today.

We don’t understand, get involved, or care much about our government until our tribal leader tells us our tribe is threatened. Then we support further corruption of the process for the temporary benefit of the tribe.

The American experiment is failing as long as we continue to provide blind support to our tribe without understanding what the constitution tried to create and how it was designed to function.

And most importantly what was required of our role in that process and the fear that we were the weakest link in fulfilling that dream.
