The historic 111-year-old Mason County courthouse in Mason, Texas was destroyed by an overnight fire between Feb. 4 and Feb. 5.
Mason County Judge Jerry Bearden reported that the courthouse, which was set to begin renovations in May, caught fire around 10 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 4. It was reported that by 1:30 a.m. Friday, only the building’s exterior rock wall remained.
County records had already been moved out of the building.
Bearden reported that the cause of the fir was not known but will be investigated.
Mason is located 2 hours south of Dublin on Hwy 377/67.
