The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints provides FamilySearch free of charge to everyone, regardless of tradition, culture, or religious affiliation. Originally intended for Church members, FamilySearch resources help millions of people around the world discover their heritage and connect with family members. Create a free account at www.familysearch. org and begin your search.
FamilySearch databases include millions of records and indexes, thousands of books and family trees, and many online tutorials. There are also links to partner sites. Some such as www.findagrave. comare completely free to use.
Others such as Ancestry. com offer some free access to some records and charge a fee to access more. Don’t be put off by fee-based services, as there is so much to be studied for free. If you do not feel computer confident, meet with a volunteer to learn more about what is available with and without computer use. Remember, people have studied their family heritage for centuries before the advent of computers!
