First bar to open in Dublin since election

The Deer Lease, a Mingus-based full-service bar, will open its second location in Dublin in early January.

The opening will mark the first bar within the city limits since Dublin voters overwhelmingly approved the local liquor option in a November 2020 election.

Owners Sam and Jana Alderman, who live in Comanche County, have purchased the property at 1040 N. Patrick just inside the city limits.

The venue will feature a balcony for live band and entertainment, a full kitchen, indoor and outdoor dining, a jukebox, a meeting room, a game room and special events linked to holidays or celebrations.

Sam is a retired Eastland County sheriffs deputy and Jana is a former dispatcher.

They have owned and operated the Mingus bar for two years.

Jana said she envisions a family-friendly atmosphere with a limited but diverse menu. The bar will be open from 11 a.m. to midnight Sunday through Friday and from 11 to 1 on Saturdays.

“We credit our friends Cliff and Lisa Jackson for bringing us to Dublin,” Sam said. “They knew we would be close to home and with people who are friendly. Without doubt, Dublin is going through a revival period and we want to be part of it.”

Sam was quick to point out that without the help of Eddy Weiss, the vision could not have come together.

Eddy, E.G. Weiss & Associates, helped the Aldermans with design, space planning, construction and décor. Jana also credits the Dublin Economic Development Corp. with helping with site selection and business plans.
