Fire impedes traffic on Washington

Body

Due to the fast work of Stephenville Fire Department and Erath County Fire/ Rescue, Baxter Chemical was saved after a two-vehicle accident caused a fire on Washington Street.

According to information released by the Stephenville Police Department, a silver Dodge 1500 was traveling westbound in the inside lane, attempting to turn left.

A black F-250 was traveling eastbound in the outside lane and the other truck did not see the vehicle, and impacted the truck spinning him into a power pole.

When the vehicle struck the pole and broke it, a transformer fell causing a grass fire.

Stephenville PD said the driver was extremely lucky because he had the forethought to jump from the vehicle making sure to avoid any power current.

The fire was extremely close to Baxter Chemical, however no damage was done to the building.

No one was injured in the crash and major traffic delays occurred in the area as Washington Street was shut down and blocked for an hour and 16 minutes.

Nearby businesses including HEB provided water bottles to first responders on scene.
