Dublin’s Dollar General sits boarded up and behind a fence after a June 8 fire resulted in a total loss of the building and items inside.

Dublin Police Chief Cameron Ray reported that dispatch received the call that the building was on fire shortly after 10 p.m.

According to reports, the staff was in the front of the building closing up when they looked up at the closed circuit TV and saw smoke on the screen.

“They looked away and saw flames in the back corner of the building and ran out the front,” Ray reported.

Dublin PD, EMS and fire were on scene within two minutes of receiving the call and quickly called for more assistance.

“It was kind of an all hands on deck situation,” Ray said.

Dublin EMS also remained on scene to assist and monitor firefighters while Dublin PD helped with matters like keeping the highway blocked as traffic was redirected away from the scene.

“I can not say enough to express the gratitude for the help we received from our neighboring fire departments,” Dublin VFD representative wrote on their facebook page. “We are truly blessed to live in an area where our neighbors give freely of their time and expertise.”

Firefighters worked tirelessly through the night, cutting holes in the side of the building to assist with battling the blaze.

According to reports, the last fire truck left the scene just after 6 a.m.

Erath County Fire Marshal Tommy Shelton, was back at the scene just after sun up on June 9 to begin his investigation. Investigation results were unavailable at press time as Shelton was awaiting findings from Fort Worth.
