Filing for local elections is continuing for school board and city council, and although no one has filed as of presstime for any of the Dublin races, several have filed for Stephenville City Council and a special election has also been called for city of Stephenville.
Filing is open for local elections through Friday, Feb. 13 for the May 2 election. Filing for the special election for Place 3 and 7 will end at 5 p.m. March 3.
For Stephenville City Council, incumbents Dean Parr (Place 4), Alan Nix (Place 8) and Mayor Lonn Reisman have all filed to retain their seats.
Both incumbent Gerald Cook and Jorge Moreno have filed for Place 2 and Ricky Thurman has filed for Place 6. Mark McClinton has filed for Place 3 and Nick Robinson has filed for Place 7.
For Dublin ISD, there are two school board seats up including those currently held by Ryan Mitchell and Blanca Martineau. Mitchell has filed to retain his seat.
Anyone wanting to file for a seat can either pick up a packet at the school district administration office located at 420 North Post Oak or go online.
In order to run for school board, an individual must be a U.S. Citizen, be 18 years of age or older on the first day of the term to be filled at the election or on the date of appointment, has not been determined by a final judgment of a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be totally mentally incapacitated or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote, has not been finally convicted of a felony from which the individual has not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities, has resided continuously in the state for 12 months and within Dublin ISD boundaries for 6 months and is registered to vote in the territory.
For city council, the mayor’s seat and Places 2 and 4 will be on the ballot, currently held by Mayor David Leatherwood, and Councilmembers Nancy Williams and Jacob McCullough. In order to run for city council, a person must be a U.S. Citizen, have been a resident of Texas for 12 months and the city limits of Dublin for 6 months, have a current voter registration certificate, be 18 years of age or older.
