A new Dublin Economic Development Corporation board member was recently selected after a series of interviews at a special called meeting Sept. 16.
Karen Wright was selected as the new board meeting though she must still be confirmed through city council.
Wright is the owner of Blackjack Office Center in downtown Dublin, former EDC executive director and the founded of The Dublin Citizen.
Wright, along with Rod McNeal, Ken Stephens and Bryan Lanting had all put in applications for a board position vacated by Jeff Weaver.
Before interviews took place, McNeal withdrew his application for the board according to EDC Executive Director Noah Cullis.
At the meeting, Cullis said he introduced the candidates and they were each interviewed separately in closed session without Cullis in attendance.
A unanimous vote was given to appoint Wright.
“If there is another vacancy, it is great that we have people to choose from,” Cullis said.
At the EDC regular meeting Tuesday, Sept. 23, the board unanimously voted to deny an event grant for the Hispanic Fall Festival organized by the Knights of Columbus and held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
The Texas Economic Dev. Corporation provided guidance on parameters for the EDC which do not allow approval due to it being a religious organization. The festival was also held outside the city limits which means the city would not get any sales tax dollars from the festival itself.
“We would really love them to consider moving this into the city limits next year,” Cullis said.
The board also gave guidance on beginning the process of merging two community improvement grants into one document and is close to having its new website up and running by November.
