Officers with the Erath County Sheriff’s Office arrested a juvenile suspect in connection with a safety concern reported by staff of Lingleville ISD.

Erath County Sheriff Matt Coates reported a report came through on Saturday, Sept. 3 of a potential safety concern that had been brought to the attention of school staff.

“Investigators from the Sheriff’s office began their investigation immediately,” said Coates. “A number of witnesses were interviewed as a result of this investigation. Uniformed and nonuniformed law enforcement officers were at the Lingleville ISD campus as they are with all school campuses in Erath County. While the investigation was ongoing, the steps were taken by both law enforcement and school district officials to maintain the safety of the Lingleville ISD campus.”

On Thursday, a juvenile was arrested in connection with the investigation (whose name is not released due to their age).

“The Erath County Sheriff’s office and the Lingleville Independent School district as with all school districts in Erath County, take the safety and security of the school children very seriously,” said Coates. “The ECSO and the school districts are taking all appropriate steps and measures to ensure their safety.”

Lingleville ISD superintendent DeeCee McDougal reinforced this statement and offered her appreciation to ECSO for their hard work.

“We’re continuing to work with local law enforcement [to ensure safety,” McDougal said. “It has been a great deal of planning. We’re extremely grateful everything the local sheriff’s office is doing to keep our students and staff safe.”
