Dublin voters narrowly opted for incumbent in the Saturday’s Dublin ISD School Board elections while the county followed the state trend in approving two propositions.
A total of 967 votes were cast in the elections for two unexpired seats on the board with incumbents Anjelica Salyer and Pat Leatherwood claiming the positions with 327 and 311 votes respectively. Challenger John Shipman got 234 votes and Writein candidate Tara Caldera got 62 votes. There were 33 unassigned write-in votes and 109 undervotes. (A total of 538 Dublin voters cast ballots and were allowed to pick two candidates in this election.)
In the race for an unexpired term, Bob Cervetto got 265 votes while Dewayne Kolb claimed 253. There were 20 voters who left the decision blank.
The 3,860 Erath voters who cast ballots in the May 7 elections approved the propositions (reducing the amount of ad valorem taxes that may be imposed on homestead for elderly and disabled property owners and increasing the amount of money exempt under homestead property tax exemption) in large numbers. There were 3,359 votes for Proposition 1 with 405 against and 93 undervotes. There were 3,334 votes for proposition 2 with 465 against and 58 undervotes. On the state level, the propositions passed with 86.91% in favor of proposition 1 and 84.89% in favor of proposition 2.
Stephenville voters narrowly voted down two bonds totaling $75 million for the construction of new athletic facilities. A total of 1,604 voters opted against the $50 million bond for a new football/ soccer stadium while 1,344 voted for and 12 left the decision blank.
A total of 1,696 voters opted against the $25 million bond for an indoor facility, tennis complex baseball stand and a press box while 1,242 voted for and 22 left the choice blank.
In contested Stephenville races, Doug Svien claimed the mayor race with 1,001 votes to 814 for challenger Brady Pendleton. There 62 voters left the matter blank.
In the contested race for Place 6 on the Stephenville City Council, David Baskett edged out Dean Parr 870 to 861. There were 146 undervotes.
In the contested Stephenville ISD race for Place 4, Luke Sims claimed the seat with 1,509 votes to Amauri Martinez’s 1,266. There were 185 voters who left the vote undecided.
