The Dublin Family Worship (604 N. Patrick) parking lot was filled Thursday, Nov. 27 as dozens of volunteers devoted the morning hours of their Thanksgiving holiday to providing care and a home cooked meal to Dublin and neighboring communities.
The ministry delivered 278 meals and fed a total 301 people including volunteers on Thanksgiving.
“I love the help,” said pastor Anthony Martinez. “We’ve got people from Hico helping us; we’ve got people from Stephenville helping us so it’s not just us. We’re serving a lot in Dublin but we’re starting to spread out.”
Organizers and volunteers prepared and delivered (thanks to the eight drivers helping out) meals in Dublin, Hico, DeLeon, Proctor and even a few to Stephenville.
Martinez said preparation had begun as early as Sunday as they cooked 14 turkeys and 15 hams that were served along with sides, rolls, gravy and cranberry sauce.
“We’ve also got Miss Judy from Hico who baked homemade pieces of cake,” Martinez added. “It’s delicious.”
This marks the third year that DFW (formerly Calvary Fellowship) and Feed My Sheep Ministries has provided free Thanksgiving meals to the local community and the organizers built on previous experience, falling into an assembly line to package up the meals as quickly as possible before delivering them and gathering for a Thanksgiving meal together.
The ministry has been busy this season as they cooked tacos at Morning Star Ranch’s family fun day Nov. 22 and KOA’s Christmas event Saturday, Nov. 29 as well.
They are also set to run the concession stand at the Erath County Jr. Livestock Show once again from Jan. 4-10.
Martinez said wherever they find a need to serve, they will be there.
