That’s what we love about Dublin
Dublin Dairy Queen celebrated in all of its family-fun and community spirit for its 50th anniversary Saturday, Sept. 17.
The event hosted free give-a-ways consisting of mugs, blankets, cakes, t-shirts and Orka water bottles, along with 50 cent ice cream cones and $5 steak finger baskets.
A car show full of classic autos filled their parking lot reminiscent of times gone by.
Dublin’s Dairy Queen located on Patrick Street was built in 1972 by the late James Fritts and Willard Mann. Fritts bought out Mann the next year and continued to make an impact on the business community. In the years since its opening, he bought Hamilton, Comanche, Brownwood and Cisco locations to form his signature “Five Star” Dairy Queens he managed with his son, David.
Fritts often donated to the community, and it was routinely seen in Dairy Queen’s involvement. Whether it was free pool entry and ice cream for kids on a hot summer day or offering time and supplies for community events, his presence and business could be seen whenever Dublin neighbors gathered together.
After his dad’s passing David took ownership of all five DQs, embracing each community with the spirit of giving, and providing terrific food for everyone.
“It was amazing. I am honored to have been a part of making such a special celebration for the Fritts family,” Dublin DQ manager Shanna Phelps said about the 50th celebration.
