Dublin ISD School Board members elected officers and approved contracts during their regular meeting Monday night.
All board members were present with Bob Cervetto taking the unexpired term left by Jeff Weaver after Weaver recently resigned when his wife, Lisa, was hired as a teacher.
DISD Superintendent Melissa Summers advised the board that they needed to make nominations and vote for officers with the exit of Weaver, who served as board president.
Kent Crouch stepped up from vice president to fill the president position while board members unanimously voted for Raymond Salinas as vice president and Anjelica Salyer as secretary.
The meeting also began with comments from school principals Norma Briseno, Amanda Lisso, Kalley Mitchell and Samantha Ables, director of Special Education for greater Erath County, in honor of School Board Recognition month. All offered their thanks to school board members for their support, volunteering time, traveling to events and making decisions that put the children of the district first.
“I feel truly blessed to have such a supportive board,” said Summers, echoing the sentiments.
The agenda included an executive session discussion of the contracts of several employees, but the school board members elected to stay in open session, noting no specific discussion that would require executive session.
School board member Pat Leatherwood inquired if the district still had teaching positions to fill, and Summer responded that the only need was for an additional life skills teacher for which the district is currently advertising.
The School Board unanimously voted to renew the contracts of the following positions: assistant superintendent, instructional specialist, special education director, campus principals, athletic director, girls athletic director, assistant principals, counselors, business manager and band director.
“I’m very pleased with every person [on this list],” said Summers in recommending the approval.
The board also briefly discussed the sale of a small piece of land near the area formerly known as the ‘race track.’ Summers advised that the land was probably donated to the school at some point but was small and didn’t serve a practical purpose for the district.
The board asked for the sale of the land to be included as a future agenda item.
The board also unanimously approved the order of elections and entered into a contract with the county for the May 7 general election. Three school board seats will be up for election: those currently filled by Anjelica Salyer, Pat Leatherwood and Bob Cervetto.
Those wishing to file can pick up and turn in packets at the Dublin ISD administration office (420 N. Post Oak).
The board also unanimously voted to accept an amendment to the 2021- 2022 budget for repairs done on the gym which resulted from last year’s winter storm. It was reported that the costs should be fully reimbursed by insurance after work is finished.
Summers also reported that attendance was up 1105, compared to 1100 last month and 1087 last school year.
The Board also reviewed the Texas Academic Performance Report with assistant superintendent Terri White pointing out that the district performed well above the state average in every test.
“That’s something to be proud of,” she said.
