Disc golf course complete

“The course is officially complete,” said Dublin Disc Golf Club founder Greg Thompson, describing the installation of official signage, tee pads and fairways at the Dublin City Park’s course.

The completion marked the end of four months of work as course development started on April 12 following the successful St. Patrick’s Days disc golf tournament.

Signs chart the fairway of each hole and were designed by Signs Express, using aerial photos from Thompson and planning by the group.

“I’m looking forward to seeing people come and play,” Thompson said. “I think we were able to develop a course simple enough for beginning to get started but challenging for seasoned players.”

“Every time we got something complete, we had to come and try it out,” Thompson said of the club members’ excitement for the course.

The club meets every Wednesday at 5 p.m. at the course. The weekly play session drew 19 members after the course’s completion, with players from Brownwood, Comanche, Stephenville and Dublin wanting to see how it played.

“It was weird,” Thompson admitted. “Everybody is used to playing on grass.”

Thompson is excited about the attention it is receiving though, saying he’s seen a few random people playing throughout the week. When Thompson spoke to the Dublin Rotary Club, he was asked what people need to play. Thompson responded that

Thompson responded that anyone interested can get a Frisbee and go see how the sport works by aiming for the tees and walking the course.

For those that find a real love for the game, a wide variety of discs are made with different designs for distance and fade but Thompson doesn’t make any specific recommendation for beginners.

Thompson wished to thank the sponsors for all of their help in the course’s development and the city for helping keep the course mowed and looking good. He also wished to shout out the following for all their assistance: Jeremiah Pierce, Skylar Pierce, Jamie Sanders, Travis and Josh Sanders, Gregory Thompson, Paul Francis and Jack Francis.
