Darrell Curry said the opening of the Suds & More Laundromat was another step in continuing his family’s legacy.
“My grandmother (Esta Sarringer) had one and I always thought it was cool,” he said. Curry remembered helping count quarters at the Laundromat located by Ivie’s 7-11 when he was young.
“I always wanted to build a laundromat and Dad said we’ve got the prime location for it now,” he said.
The space came available after the fuel pumps were removed from M&M Service Station, offering room to expand M&M’s building for the new business.
Setting up the business at 304 E. Blackjack with his parents, Marvin and Melonie Curry, gave Darrell extrainsightintothebusiness side of a laundromat.
“I didn’t realize how much work went into it until I started setting this one up,” he admitted.
The 24-hour Laundromat has been open for a month, offering eight washing machines and eight dryers with room on the property to expand and add more when need arises.
“It’s picked up quite a bit,” Curry said of the foot traffic. “Every week, it’s growing a little bit more.”
Customers have access to a bill changer, vending machines and a Roku to help pass the time.
Curry also reported plans to accept drop-off and pickup laundry service in the future.
Suds & More is clearly a work in progress with Curry wanting to respond to customer’s needs.
“Come and try it out,” Curry invited as he encouraged customers to approach with him feedback.
