County Judge Brandon Huckabee has filed to retain his seat in the March 2026 Republican Primary race.
Huckabee is running for his second term as county judge and has been in the position since 2023.
The county judge is an Erath County native who attended Bluff Dale until the fifth grade, before transferring and graduating from Stephenville High School and attending Tarleton state University.
He left the university to enter the retail world where he led up to 100-150 people as HR operations and store manager at chains like Mervyn’s, Kohl’s and Old Navy. He met his wife, Alyssa, while living and working in the metroplex, and decided to return to Erath in 2015 because they wanted to raise their children in a community with the traditional rural values Brandon had growing up.
Upon returning to Erath, they started Huckabee Inspection Group and Pro Lighting Solutions.
He and Alyssa have been married 11 years and have two daughters, Brinley, 11, and Ella 7, both of who attend Stephenville ISD.
“That’s pretty much what our lives are - work, kids and sports,” he said. “It really goes by fast.”
Huckabee decided to run for a second term because of all of the good things and projects taking place within the county.
“I just think we’ve done so many good things and we’ve got so many objects on going that I want to be here to ensure we get them completed and finished out,” he said. “We have so much more we are working on as the community grows and changes. I want to be able to facilitate that in a smart, responsible way. I hope that people think we are doing a good job.”
The county judge cited great teamwork and collaboration with other elected officials and municipalities such as city of Dublin and Stephenville as a positive during his first term.
“We have some good synergy and I want to keep that going,” he said.
Huckabee stated some of the issues that the county is facing include continued growth, which includes making sure adequate infrastructure is in place including water and roadways.
“We have to figure out how to continue to meet the demand of the services that need to be provided to keep people safe and to provide the first responders with the tools that they need. Infrastructure is always going to be a big one because we have more cars on the roads,” he said.
One of the strengths that the county judge touted was Erath County being an incredibly attractive place to raise a family.
In the past 12 months, Huckabee said he might have missed one commissioners court meeting due to a conflict or illness, but he tries not to miss them.
Currently, Huckabee not only serves as county judge but is Secretary for North Central Texas Council of Governments and if re-elected will most likely become president in two years. He also serves on the CARS board, NCT Workforce committee, NCT 911 board, is on the board of trustees for First United Methodist Church of Stephenville and attends FUMC Stephenville.
If Huckabee is re-elected, he has several goals and projects he would like to see achieved or completed including the radio communication project, where for the first time ever each and every first responder in the county will be on the same radio system drastically improving emergency communications.
Huckabee is also excited to see the unified dispatch center be completed and to start some short and long-term planning including county facilities and infrastructure needs.
Huckabee said work needs to begin on a master thoroughfare plan so as the county and cities continue to grow, the county will have a plan in place to know where right-of-way needs to go for future roads.
“I want to continue to look at ways that we can work with other elected officials so we can make their offices more efficient. This will help us better serve our citizens without having to add more staff and more things. Financially, I think it’s the right decision longterm for the taxpayers,” Huckabee said. “We are here to serve the citizens of Erath County.”
