The Dublin City Council made several appointments, adopted an action plan for natural disasters and a drought contingency plan and heard public comments in a short meeting Monday night.

Appointments included Brad Stanford as the returning Dublin Municipal Airport Manager (who said he will be seeking volunteers as he builds the facility’s presence in-person and online), Ben Pate to the city Planning and Zoning Board and David Cleveleand to a three-year term on the Upper Leon Municipal Water District Board representing Dublin.

Council members unanimously passed the city’s drought contingency and water conservation plan (which has to be updated every five years) and the Erath County Hazard Mitigation Action Plan (which was funded through a grant and coordinated with other Erath agencies to describe ways to prepare for natural disasters and avoid potential problems).

The meeting began with two public comments.

Dublin Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Karen Wright offered her gratitude to City Manager Bobby Mendez and Dublin EMS for their assistance in reconsidering the construction of an EMS building on the city-owned parking lot on the corner of S. Park and Live Oak. Wright said the construction would be detrimental to parking for the nearby business as well as for organizations that host events like 5Ks close to the lot.

Wright also stated a need to develop properties including the condemned building at 113 S. Patrick (for which there might be assistance possible) and the historic train depot, which she said continues to garner a lot of interest.

Bradley Gegue spoke to the council about “a lot of dogs running around with no tags” and stated he would like to see an effort to help ensure that all dogs are licensed in town so they can get back to their owners.

Gegue said he has personally had to find owners for several loose dogs and would volunteer to help if something were started. “I’m worried about the welfare of these animals,” He said.

The Council and Dublin Mayor David Leatherwood also presented a proclamation to Dublin Police officers in honor of National Police Week (May 9-May 15) and stated they would present a proclamation Dublin EMS in honor of National EMS Week (May 16-May 22).
