The Comanche County Historical Museum invites the community to join in a festive two-day fundraising event honoring Texas Independence Day, featuring the inaugural Texas Campfire Chili Cookout. This familyfriendly gathering will highlight pioneer history and offer a taste of authentic 1830s-era cuisine, with proceeds supporting ongoing museum projects. Held at the museum's scenic three acre campus at 402 Moorman Road in Comanche, Texas, the event commemorates the adoption of the Texas Declaration of Independence in 1836.
On Saturday, March 7, visitors can explore periodcorrect campsites, visit with re-enactors in authentic clothing, and view vintage tools that bring the pioneer lifestyle to life. The festivities culminate on Sunday, March 8, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., when the 'Living the Legacy' group will serve hearty campfire chili, cornbread, and cobbler. The grass fed beef is generously supplied by the Artesian Ranch. 'This event is a wonderful opportunity for families and history enthusiasts to step back in time and experience the spirit of early Texas pioneers,' said Bobby Lane, museum board president. 'We're excited to partner with 'Living the Legacy' to create an immersive, educational, and delicious celebration that supports our mission to preserve Comanche County's rich heritage.' Donations are encouraged to fund museum initiatives, including exhibits, preservation efforts, and community programs. Admission to the event is free, with all contributions directly benefiting the nonprofit organization. The Comanche County Historical Museum is dedicated to showcasing the history and culture of Comanche County through engaging exhibits, events, and educational outreach.
