Curry files to help
When asked why he decided to run for Justice of the County Precinct 2, Darrell Curry responded, “You get to help people.”
The 2008 Dublin High School graduate has made a habit of helping people for most of his life.
This includes nearly 10 years on the Dublin Volunteer Fire Department and about a decade of serving on the Dublin City Council. He has also been serving on the Dublin EDC board.
His earliest volunteering came from helping at the Erath County stock show with his parents, Marvin and Melonie, and working with kids at Foster’s Home for Children.
Curry has remained an active helper of the local foster system and he and his late wife, Leslie, knew early on that they wanted to adopt. That wish was fulfilled with the adoption of Lyrick.
Darrell said Leslie started him on much of the recent volunteering he has done in helping the kids of Erath County, which includes helping Big Brothers Big Sisters and CASA as well as volunteering at Dublin Elementary, where Leslie taught.
“She kept me organized and in line,” Darrell said of Leslie, to whom he was married for seven years and with for 11. “I think about what Leslie would do all the time [when making choices].”
Curry said his experience in working with the local organizations led his family to sign on as CASA advocates and for him to sponsor parents going through the foster care process.
This volunteer work isn’t the only thing that has kept Darrell busy. He has also been a hard worker for businesses such as Bradberry Building Supply, the post office and WDT. He has also managed his own businesses, including a former sno cone stand and Rafter C Roll-Offs.
Curry said if elected, he looks forward to working with the City and Police (many of whom he already knows) to help make the precinct the best it can be.
Curry said there may be some difficulty in the county with several positions having change over, but he likes the mix of experienced and younger leaders in the precinct and county, saying it promotes learned wisdom as well as fresh ideas.
Curry said one of his biggest strengths as a candidate for JP is his plain-spoken honesty. “Good or bad, I’m going to tell them what they need to hear,” he said.
