Central Texas Dairy Days

The average yearly milk sales for the last 5 years in the 3-county area (Comanche, Erath and Hamilton counties), totals approximately $389,645,500.00 annually. This is an incredible amount of money being pumped into our local economy by your local dairy families. In an effort to showcase Central Texas dairy farms to local dairy families and those throughout the state, agents in Comanche, Erath and Hamilton counties have organized the Central Texas Dairy Day CTDD this year.

The CTDD will be held on Thursday October 21st at Kuiper Dairy in Erath County. The Kuiper Dairy is owned and operated by the Kuiper family. The family milks approximately 3000 dairy cows and also farms approximately 3500 acres for feed and forage to support the dairy. Like most local dairy families, the Kuiper family is very innovative and utilizes the latest technology in both its dairy and cropping systems.

The CTDD will include 2 tours of the dairy facilities, each tour will offer 2 DOPA credits for a total of 4 DOPA credits. We will also have probably the largest dairy trade show in the state, with vendors representing everything from dairy equipment, farming equipment and genetics to seed companies. The event will kick off at 10 AM and go until 5: PM. Lunch will be provided.

Lamb and Goat Validations

This year’s lamb and goat validations will take place on Tuesday, October 19th from 4 until 7 PM at the Comanche County Livestock Association “CCLA” Barn. This validation will be for both major shows and the county show. All lambs and goats must be validated. If you have questions about validations or showing lambs or goats, please call the office or your schools agriculture teacher.
