State Pecan Show Winners

Comanche County has a strong history and future in pecan production, for many years we were the top pecan producing county in the state, we have recently slipped to the number 2 position behind El Paso County.

Prices have been a challenge the last couple of years for producers and extreme weather conditions are making this year a tough year, but as usual our good producers will prevail.

The pecan industry is very important to our local economy, depending on the year pecan sales in the county can vary from $8.6 million to $18 million.

Pecan orchards require intensive management; producers must have excellent horticulture skills to be profitable with this difficult crop.

Our local producers are some of the best, the State Pecan Show is an indication of our producer’s ability to produce not only profitable, but also highquality pecans.

Be sure you look for locally grown pecans when you go to purchase pecans and do not just eat them at the holiday’s they are good year-round.

The Texas State Pecan Show was judged July 27th 2021, in conjunction with the Texas Pecan Growers Association 100th Annual Conference held in San Marcos. The pecans on display were grown in the 2020 season and included 202 entries representing counties from across the state.

To be eligible for state competition, entries must be advanced from a county pecan show to one of three regional shows (East, Central, and West).

The top three placing entries within each pecan variety class are advanced to the state competition.

Samples are frozen from December to July for judging and display at one of the nation’s largest pecan trade shows (TPGA).

The Texas Pecan Show is the largest and most competitive competition in the world, with a continuous history dating back in its current organized format to 1950. The following producers advanced from the county show and placed at this year’s state show.
