Farm and Ranch CEU Program and Swine and Horse Validations
The Texas Pesticide Law requires that a person may not use a restricted-use or state-limited-use pesticides or regulated herbicides unless licensed or certified by the Texas Department of Agriculture. All applicators must obtain continuing education units (CEU’s) to renew their license.
Private Applicators License must obtain 15 hours of CEU’s every five years to renew/recertify their license. These hours must be from 2 hours of Laws and Regulations, 2 hours of Integrated Pest Management (IPM), and any mix of these and General hours to equal the required 15 hours of CEU’s. Licensed commercial and non commercial applicators are required to recertify every year by obtaining five continuing education credits; with one credit each from two of the following categories: laws and regulations, integrated pest management or drift minimization.
This year it has been a little difficult to get hours, so here is your chance. Once again, we will be offering the opportunity to get a lot of CEU’s in one day. The program will be held on Thursday, December 10, 2020. This seminar will offer eight (8) CEU’s for the private applicator license and certificate holders. The approved credit hours are: four (4) General, two (2) Laws and Regulation, one (1) IPM and one (1) drift hours. Commercial and non-commercial license holders will be able to obtain all of their needed hours for license renewal with the first 5 hours of the program.
Topics and speakers include: “General Herbicide/Pesticide Update” James Jackson- Range & Pasture Specialist for Alligare, “Law and Regulations Updates & Complaint Process” Perry Cervantes-TDA, “Drift Management & Spray Calibration” Dr. Mark Matocha- Extension Specialist Agriculture and Environmental Safety, “General Laws & Regulations Compliance” Don Renchie- Texas A&M IPM Specialist, “Horn Fly Control Methods & Hot Topics in IPM” Dr. Sonja Swiger- Extension Entomologist, “Plant Pathology in Row Crops” Dr. Thomas Isakeit-Texas A&M Plant Pathologist, “Pond Management & Weed Control” Dr. Brittany Chesser-Texas A&M Aquatic Vegetation Specialist, “Combating Common Pest & Disease in Trees” Rachel McGregor- Texas A&M Forestry Service. This year’s program will be held at the DeLeon City Hall. The cost of registration is $50.00, which includes lunch. Doors will open at 7AM with program starting at 7:30AM. 8 CEU’s in one day makes for a very long day, I suggest a donut pillow seat cushion.
