Bays seeks Pct. 2 place with focus on safer county roads

David Bays is seeking the opportunity to serve as Precinct 2 county commissioner with a focus on bringing safer roads to the county. Bays is running against incumbent commissioner Albert Ray and challenger Dale Spurlen.

“Maintaining and providing safe, reliable roads for our children, school bus drivers, business owners, and taxpayers is one of my primary concerns. Equally important is listening to residents and working on their behalf. Precinct 2 faces several challenges, and I am committed to helping overcome them,” he said.

Bays’ education includes attending schools in Stephenville along with some college coursework.

“I have deep roots in this community, and much of my family still lives here,” he said. Bays is also a member of the Goodguys Car Club. Professionally, he has worked for one of the largest road construction companies in Houston. His experience includes building interstates, highways, streets, parking lots and levees. “I have spent my career doing the work firsthand, operating all types of heavy equipment, construction machinery, and farm equipment, with safety always being my top priority,” Bays said.

One of Erath County’s greatest strengths, he said, is its taxpayers and local businesses, many of whom are willing to work alongside commissioners to provide better materials and long-term solutions for roadways.

“I am in good standing with one of the largest road material producers in this area, and they have expressed a willingness to help,” Bays said.

He has attended several county meetings and plans to attend many more, especially as important issues approach, including the upcoming election, the proposed AI data center, and power line projects, he said.

“My decision to run was not made lightly or at the last minute,” Bays said. “I am especially focused on improving road safety for our children. School buses incur significant maintenance costs, and from what I have seen in Precinct 2, many roads contribute to those expenses. In fact, some buses refuse to travel certain roads at all. While political matters are an unavoidable part of being a county commissioner, I am not a career politician. I believe strongly in doing what is right and serving with integrity.”

“I am not a retired state employee seeking to enhance a retirement portfolio. I am a hardworking taxpayer who is ready and willing to work for fellow taxpayers. I respectfully ask for your vote and the opportunity to serve,” he said.
