A Dubliner was killed in an ATV accident last week.
According to information released by the Texas Department of Transportation, the accident occurred at 1:46 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5 in Comanche County on County Road 436, 3.2 miles west of Proctor.
Eric Shane Covey, 43, of Dublin was driving a 2015 Polaris, Ranger HO900 CP all-terrain vehicle with passenger, Deanna Darlene Montgomery, 28, also of Dublin.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the ATV was traveling west on CR 436 and drove south into the barrow ditch and then attempted to steer back toward the roadway. The vehicle then rolled onto the driver’s side. Covey was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash by Justice of the Peace Johnny Conine.
Neither individual was wearing a helmet and Montgomery suffered non-incapacitating injuries.
The driver had been consuming alcoholic beverages, the report stated.
The crash was investigated by Trooper Robert R. McGrath, Texas Highway Patrol – DeLeon and Assisted by Trooper Mitchell Best, Texas Highway Patrol – Comanche and Deputy Cole Partin, Comanche County Sheriff’s Office.
