Two individuals were arrested on child endangerment charges after a 3-year-old girl was involved in a neardrowning incident Sunday, Feb. 16. A police standoff at the Patrick Apartments in Stephenville happened as a result of the case.
Jacob Travis Daniels was arrested on charges of abandoning/endangering a child individual intentional/ knowingly/reckless/ criminal negligent and interfering with emergency request for assistance. He is being held on a $19,500 bond in Erath County Jail. Crystal Lee Brinegar was arrested on charges of abandoning/endangering a child individual intentional/ knowingly/reckless/ criminal negligent.
Brinegar is being held on a $15,000 bond in the Erath County Jail.
According to information released by the Stephenville Police Chief Dan Harris, emergency services was called to Patrick Apartments at 2215 W. Lingleville Road in Stephenville for a 3-year-old girl drowning. Statements detail a witness who saw Daniels sitting next to the bathtub with a child on her side. The witness believed he was giving the child a bath.
A short time later the witness told SPD that she heard Brinegar saying that her daughter had drowned.
An additional witness provided medical assistance to the child, along with SFD who was able to resuscitate the child on the way to Cook Children’s hospital.
Chief Harris reported the child is doing well and expected to make a full recovery.
During the incident, Daniels, who was armed, fled prior to contact with officers, and was later located and peacefully surrendered. SPD along with members of the Region 8 Special Operations Group (SOG) responded to the incident.
