Tri-Angler event this weekend

Body

If you’re fishing for some big payouts and fun at Proctor Lake this weekend, The Jim Lampman Memorial Crappie Tournament is sure to lure you in.

The fishing tournament features competition in crappie, youth (16 and younger) and bow fishing divisions. The event will have 100 percent payback with $1000 added in for first place in the catfish contest and $200 added into both the youth division for catfish and the bow division. (There is no youth division in the bow fishing contest.)

Entry Fees for contestants over 16 is $40. There is no charge to enter the youth division.

Pre-Registration is closed but walk-ups will be accepted at the checkin event on April 23.

Elissa Tiscareno, former Dublin Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, reported the tournament is part of the Tri-Angler Derby and the result of coordinated planning between the Chambers of Dublin, Comanche and DeLeon. Comanche hosted a Catfish tournament in October and Dublin will be hosting a bass tournament in July.

“We all have different assets,” said Tiscareno of the three towns, who are sponsoring the events to encourage guests to explore the area. “Why not work together to bring people in from out of town?”

Check-in will be Friday, April 23 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the DeLeon Pharmacy and Sporting Goods (309 S. Texas) in DeLeon followed by the opening of the tournament at 8 p.m. that night.

All fish must be caught at Lake Proctor.

Wade fishing, bank fishing and live or artificial bait are allowed.

Crappie

Fishers in the crappie division will be able to weigh-in with their catches at 2:30 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday at Promontory Park. (The tournament officially ends Sunday, April 25 at 3 p.m.) Competition will be judged on a total of 7 fish stringer. Anglers in the crappie contest will bring in 7 fish per day to weigh-in.

Each angler will be allowed no more than three rods, and all fish must be caught by rod and reel.

No more than 4 anglers are allowed per boat.

Bow

Bow fishers will weigh in at 10 a.m. at Promontory Park both days with their contest ending Sunday at 10 a.m.
