Tarleton State University celebrated the signing of the “Nancy White Crouch Endowed Scholarship” on September 20, 2024. The scholarship was established by Mrs. Crouch’s daughter Julie Smith along with gifts from a variety of friends and family. This permanently endowed fund will support aspiring teachers who graduated from a high school in Erath County and have been admitted to the Teacher Education Program in the Tarleton State University College of Education.
A graduate of Dublin High School, Tarleton State College, and Texas Christian University, Nancy was among the first to receive a graduate degree from Tarleton State University. As a beloved 7th grade Texas History in Stephenville ISD for 30 years, Mrs. Crouch instilled in her students a deep pride in their Texas heritage as well as an understanding of the value of giving back. Her classes did special projects and raised money for the Stephenville Historical House Museum, Battleship Texas, and the Statue of Liberty. Additionally, Nancy and her colleagues were the first to take Stephenville Junior High students to Washington, D.C. Mrs. Crouch received many teaching and community awards throughout her career, but her highest honor was making a difference in young lives. After retiring from teaching, Nancy was a university teaching supervisor for Tarleton State University.
A large crowd of family, friends and coworkers attended the signing ceremony. Photographed, and representing the Crouch family, are Julie Crouch Smith and Jana Crouch Jimenez. Also pictured is Mark McKenzie, Board President of the Tarleton State University Foundation.
