Signups are now ongoing for the Dublin Youth Football Cheer League with even more options for kids joining the field.

“Tackle is going to be something new we’re starting,” said DYFCL president Cojack Martinez of the program for 5th and 6th graders. “It’s been 15 years since we had [youth] tackle football in Dublin.”

Miles Gilman will be head coach for the first tackle team in 15 years and will be joined by other coaches in the league, Clarence Loflin, Malik Williams, Reed Howard, Cojack Martinez and others to be named later.

This team will be meeting up with tackle teams from DeLeon and Hico in the H1D2 league as seasons start Sept. 7.

“Wee ball” teams are also being formed for flag football for pre-k and kindergarten players looking to hit the gridiron early.

Flag football is also open to players in 1st through 4th grade and kids pre-k-6th grade can sign up for cheer.

5th and 6th graders looking to join the tackle team can go in for fitting Monday, July 15 at the old rock gym on Camden from 5 p.m. to 7 p. m.

Registration deadline for the season will be Friday, Aug. 9 with DYFL officers planning on attending Meet The Teachers at Dublin Elementary for the final registration night on Tuesday, Aug. 6.
