Humane Society to host fundraiser Saturday

The Erath County Humane Society is staying busy expanding their offerings for kitties and several fundraisers designed to fund new facilities.

Recently, the Humane Society opened Whisker Haven, a separate facility just for cats.

“We were trying to find a way to give the cats a quieter calmer place to stay until they get adopted,” Humane Society director Serena Wright said. The facility, which is a small addition on the current property, was funded in part through a grant from 50 Women Strong.

“It gives us more room because when we moved the cats to Whisker Haven it gave us more office space to be comfortable until we get our new facility. It’s also better for the cats because is calmer and quieter for them,” she said.

The facility is located on the shelter’s current property at 891 East Road and is open during regular business hours 2-6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday and Saturday noon to 5 p.m.

The public can help by volunteering, donating, fostering and adopting.

This weekend the Humane Society will host Raise the Woof – an auction and fundraiser from 3-10 p.m. at Backwoods Bar and Grill located at 17157 S. U.S. Hwy. 377 outside Dublin.

Though admission is free, donations are welcome. There will also be a 50/50 raffle where tickets are $5 each or five for $20. Ticket sales begin at 3 p.m. and the winner will be drawn at 9 p.m.

There will be live music at the event with Neal Cowan at 3 p.m., the David Brothers Band at 4 p.m. and Landon Blake at 6 p.m.

The silent auction featuring gift baskets, autographed memorabilia, gift certificates and more will be held from 4-9 p.m.
