Dublin pulls together aid

The giving nature of Dubliners is never more on display than during times of crisis, and there are several ways residents can help those in the Hill Country suffering from the effects of recent floods.

Operation Dublin Donates, started by citizen Lori Beggs with the help of the Stephenville Area Elks Lodge, is inviting citizens to fill a 16 foot enclosed trailer with donations for flood victims, specifically hygiene items, trash bags, non-perishable foods, drinks and pet supplies. No clothing is being accepted.

“After seeing the terrible destruction in central Texas near the Guadalupe River, my heart sank for those impacted. I knew that I couldn’t drive down and save people, but I could organize people for a common cause. How can anyone sit by and not do anything? With the power of social media, Operation Dublin Donates was created,” Biggs said.

Larry Stanford with the Stephenville Area Elks Lodge quickly jumped in and offered the use of an enclosed trailer to haul the collected items and helped organize drop off times.

At the end of July 7, they had collected 12 cases of water, three full boxes of diapers, more than a box of dental hygiene items, a full box of body wash and soap, three boxes of nonperishable foods, a case of bleach, various cleaning supplies and snack foods for first responders.

Everyone is invited to look at Dublin TX Chatter for dates and times when the trailer will be open for donations. The Elks Lodge will head to Central Texas Saturday morning, July 12.

They have been in contact with area Elks Lodges in the flooded area to drop the donations.

The Dublin Veterinary Clinic P.C. is also accepting cash and gift card donations specifically for the Kerr County Flood Relief Fund.

Donations can be dropped off throughout this week at the business located at 1440 Hwy. 6.
