A young girl in need and her family are asking everyone to donate blood at a blood drive this weekend.

Carter BloodCare will be hosting a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7 in the Carter BloodCare Bus at First National Bank of Dublin in honor of Josey Roman of Comanche.

There will be free hot dogs and Dublin Bottling Works drinks available to donors during the event.

Josey, 5, is a sweet, fun, outgoing and adventurous little girl from Comanche who is currently having to get a blood transfusion either weekly or every other week for a disease that doctors are having a hard time even diagnosing, according to her mom, Emily Roman.

At the age of four, Josey started changing having migraines and looking very pale.

“We went to Cooks Children’s Hospital and found out Josey had no blood. Her body had stopped making blood at 4 years of age, a very rare condition. She needed blood immediately,” Emily said.

This week, Josey underwent her third bone marrow biopsy in hopes of getting some answers as to what disease she may have.

“The blood transfusions are what is saving her life right now. Please come out and donate blood in honor of Josey Roman and all the other children in need of blood transfusions,” Emily said.

Emily describes a time when CarterBlood Care was so low on blood that even as an A+ patient, which is extremely common, they had to wait 24 hours for blood for Josey’s transfusions.

“CarterBlood Care definitely needs donations especially since it benefits Cook’s Children Hospital,” Emily said.

The family is also asking for prayers for answers and the ongoing situation for their family, especially Josey.
