It has been said it takes a village and with the start of school quickly approaching the Dublin Public Library and its community partners have been hard at work preparing for the annual Back to School Fair.
The event is set from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, July 27 at the library, 206 West Blackjack.
At the fair, participants will be able to gather toiletries, socks and underwear, along with new backpacks. Free haircuts are also available donated by Blanca Lopez and Lindsey Moore.
“I’m very grateful for all the help,” Library Director Adina Dunn said. “I’m amazed every year for people’s generosity, not just with their money but with their time.” Items are first come, first serve.
Backpacks for the event have been donated by Smile Doctors, Atmos Energy and local residents. Atmos also donated water bottles for the event.
Financial donors for this year’s event includes the library’s main partner, First Baptist Church who donated $2,000 for the event. During the church’s Vacation Bible School kids collected money for the local mission of helping other kids in the community and collected an additional $250.
Other financial supporters include Dairy Solutions, Cottonwood Baptist, Lions Club and Bank of Houston.
School supplies are being provided for the upcoming school year by Dublin ISD and DeLeon ISD for all grades At the BTS fair, the Lions Club and Dairy Queen will be on hand to provide snacks, and partnering organizations including Waste Connections, Star Council, Proctor Army Corps of Engineers, Cross Timbers Family Services, Annie’s Therapeutic Companions and Dublin Woman’s Thursday Club will be on hand. There will also be a foam machine on site for attendees to play in.
The Thursday Club has been aiding the collection of toiletry items in conjunction with churches including First Methodist Church, First Baptist Church, Cottonwood, Grace Fellowship, St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Green’s Creek Methodist and Green’s Creek Baptist.
