Dublin High School band is sending 15 students to state after receiving excellent marks the Region Solo ensemble contest in Stephenville on Saturday, Feb. 24.
“These kiddos have been working non-stop for the last month to achieve this extremely high accomplishment,” said Dublin ISD Band Director Ronny Luedke.
Advancing to State contest in Austin on May 25-27 is David Nava on trumpet in the solo contest.
Qualifying for state in ensemble were the following Dublin teams:
Freshman Brass Quintet
Paul Adams, Emily Barrera, Miguel Corrales, Hunter Johnson, Karla Munoz
Brass Sextet
David Nava, Morgan Keith, Amado Carranza, Nomi Thompson, Jonny Enhorabuena, David Hernandez
Clarinet Quartet
Adam Jaimes, Jayden Rojas, Angela Martinez, Keighly Lewis
Several other Dublin band members also earned Division 1 ratings
(Superior) rating in solo contest including:
■ Kimila Gonzales (7th) – Alto Sax solo
■ Keighly Lewis (8th) – Clarinet solo
■ Emma Mason – Flute solo
■ Jayden Rojas – Clarinet solo
■ Yovany Ortiz – Flute solo
Dublin band members earning Division II (Excellent) ratings included:
■ Amado Carranza – French Horn solo
■ Jennave Villaro – Snare Drum solo
Luedke stated his appreciation to assistant directors Tember Lowe and Matt Asebedo for working with the kids during class to help them achieve this success. He also thanked Leta Sage for accompanying Nava in his appearance at Region.
“Solo and Ensemble contest is extremely important for our band program as students spend their extra time working on music that makes them better musicians (December-February) in preparation for concert/sight reading contest in early March,” Luedke added.
