Dublin ISD adds holidays

Dublin ISD has decided to extend Spring Break by a week and add additional holidays in an effort to further slow the spread of COVID.

Dublin ISD has made the decision to adjust the current school calendar by adding the following additional holidays. All students and staff members will not attend school on these dates:

■ February 15

■ March 5

■ March 15-19

Dublin ISD addressed the changes in a statement released this week:

“As always, at DISD, our primary concern is the mental, social, and academic well-being of all students.

“Due to the early start date at the beginning of the school year, and the academic progress shown, the COVID educational gaps have increasingly declined because of the hard work, determination, and effort of our students.

“We saw a substantial decline in COVID positive cases by adding the additional week off at Christmas and anticipate similar results by adding the additional week at Spring Break.

“We believe adding this week will ensure that all students not only return physically healthy, but emotionally well-rested to finish the last eight weeks of school strong!

We are hosting the Girls Regional Powerlifting Meet on Friday, March 5.

“Out of an abundance of caution and to reduce the possibility of spreading infection as a result of this contest, we have also decided to add an additional holiday on Friday, March 5.”
