Married in a snap... no wait, with a snap

Body

Weddings can be pretty solemn occasions especially when you have a family member who was like a second mother officiating the ceremony, witnessed by a large group of close friends and family and have to read personal vows (with a microphone!) in front of everyone.

All this led to a pretty serious atmosphere as my Aunt Vicky proclaimed Wyndi and I husband and wife. We kissed and then a harpsichord cut through the Dublin First Methodist Church sanctuary.

“Da Da Dah Dah...” “SNAP, SNAP” If you’re struggling to hear the melody in your head, just think of a group of people who are creepy, kooky, mysterious and spooky.

We had asked Leta Sage to handle our music and were ecstatic when she immediately accepted the challenge of playing us out to “The Addams Family” theme.

It set a perfect tone for our weird hybrid Halloween/ board game reception.

After we cut into a pretty elegant cake with a skeleton couple topper and spiders reading newspapers (Thanks, Red Umbrella) and the charcuterie table by Inflated Creations was decimated, our maid of honor and best man presented us with some sweet speeches and I led a group of about 20 through a game of Werewolf where players draw to either be a werewolf and pick off villagers or a villager and suss out the werewolves. Villagers won the first round and werewolves won the second for those keeping score.

The reception ended a bit earlier than we intended but our family and closest friends stuck around to clean up everything and transport it so Wyndi and I could head out to the Omni Hotel for a wedding weekend getaway. It was a lowkey stay in a nice hotel. We had good food at the Cast Iron in the lobby (the lamb meatballs and basque cheesecake were very solid), bought some jackets because we were under-prepared for the cold snap, watched “The Nightmare Before Christmas” at the cinema where we had our first date more than a decade ago and ate at Rise, a souffle-themed restaurant as well as La Madeleine for breakfast.

Before we left on Monday, we strolled through the Fort Worth Water Gardens in the chilly morning air.

I would be lying if I said there weren’t stressful moments while planning the ceremony but the day reminded us of how much we’re cared for by those around us and the relaxed weekend cemented how much of a match Wyndi was for me. They were great days and I’m looking forward to many more with an amazing lady.
