STOP 765kV We have come a long way in the last 6 months, but the fight is not over! You have submitted your testimonies & protests, have gone through the hearing in May, and now are in a waiting period. However, there is more we can do. Our voices need to continue to be heard! There are a few key things that have happened in our favor over the last month or so.
Key Updates - 765kV powerlines
■ American Stewards of Liberty (ASL) filed a motion asking the PUC to delay deciding whether the transmission lines are needed until all five connected projects in the Permian Basin Reliability Plan have completed their hearings. ASL argued that the projects should be evaluated as one integrated system rather than individually.
■ 43 Texas legislators supported that request by filing an amicus brief urging the PUC to pause its vote and reconsider alternatives such as additional local natural-gas generation instead of long-distance transmission.
■ In June 2026, the PUC did not grant the broad pause that ASL requested, but commissioners delayed action on at least one major segment while a connected project completed its administrative review. PUC Chairman Thomas Gleeson also indicated that he was open to considering whether the projects should be reviewed in a more coordinated manner rather than entirely on a case-bycase basis.
What can YOU do now?
None of us want these 765kV powerlines in Texas, but we all have a different story (as told in your testimonies and your protests). We all have different concerns or reasons why these powerlines should not cut through our land, our community, and our state. Tell our senators, legislators, the PUC, and more importantly, Governor Abbott, why this project needs to come to a halt.
How can you make your
voice be heard?
Write a page letter telling your story.
Consider including the following in your letter: ■ Who: Who owns, works, or depends on the property? Is it a multi-generational family ranch, a farm, or a business that supports your livelihood?
■ What: What is the land used for? Describe your agricultural operation, wildlife habitat, historic sites, water resources, or other important features.
■ When: How long has your family owned or cared for the property? Include any history, traditions, or future plans for passing it to the next generation.
■ Where: Where is your property located, and where would the proposed 765-kV route cross or impact it? Mention nearby communities, schools, churches, rivers, or other significant landmarks.
■ How: How would these power lines affect your property, your operation, your family, and/or your way of life? Explain the economic, environmental, historical, and personal impacts you anticipate. Personal stories and specific details help lawmakers understand that this issue is not simply about a transmission route on a map—it is about real people, real communities, and the lasting effects on Texas families and private property rights.
