Great plants, expert advice, and fun for kids at ECMG’s spring plant sale Erath County Master Gardeners’ Spring Plant Sale is one of the most popular annual gardening events in Erath County.
The sale offers a large selection of annuals and perennials, wildflowers, popular landscaping plants, indoor and patio plants, succulents and cactus, vegetables and herbs, shrubs, bushes, and trees.
The plant sale is ECMG’s biggest fundraiser of the year. The group will use the money raised to further its primary mission of educating community members on smart gardening principles. Their educational outreach takes multiple forms. Adventures in Gardening is one example. Our most recent “adventure” was the January 2025 vegetable growing class, which was attended by more than 50 people.
An important aspect of this event is that certified master gardeners are there to help people select the plants that meet their individual needs.
They answer questions about watering and fertilizing requirements, when and where to plant, and how to control weeds and pests.
Master gardeners emphasize the importance of growing Texas native and adapted plants because those are the plants that grow best in our county. That’s why the sale features many native and adapted plants.
ECMG plant sales always include an educational component.
This year, the spotlight is on pollinator gardens.
In particular, the master gardeners will provide information on creating a Monarch Waystation. These waystations are habitats that accommodate the dwindling numbers of Monarch butterflies as they migrate in the spring and fall on their way to their winter habitat in central Mexico. Monarch Waystations also attract other butterflies and pollinators from spring through fall.
As always, the sale will offer a children’s station with gardening fun for the little ones. They can learn about seeds and plant care thought activities using stickers, small pots, soil, and seeds.
The sale is on Saturday, April 26, from 9 am to 1 pm. Its location is an area behind the AgriLife Research Center, 1229 N US HWY 281 in Stephenville.
