John 10:10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life and that they may have it more abundantly.
Euthanasia, or assisted dying, is now legal in many countries and still under constant debate in those where it is not yet legalised. Assisted dying is no more than aided suicide. Suicide is one of the most dreadful dilemmas in our society. We do all we can to assist people to not take their own lives, why are we now intent on passing laws to assist people to take their own lives? It makes no sense.
Life is not just a privilege, it is sacred. It is written, “I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you, life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore, choose life.” God is the source of all life. He created your life in the womb and he will sustain your life until the tomb. Scripture makes it clear that God commands us not to kill. Suicide, as with assisted dying, is nothing more than taking a human life, for whatever apparently justifiable reason.
I understand that it is a tremendous tragedy watching a loved one suffer from a terminal diagnosis. But, as Christian believers, we know that God is the author of life. Only he has the prerogative to end life. Helping people to die prematurely denies them the hope of healing, medically or miraculously. Helping people to die prematurely denies them the opportunity to hear the message of abundant life and the promise of eternal life.
Jesus is the giver of life. He said that the thief comes to kill but that he came to give abundant life. Abundant life is the promise of life eternal. God loved the world so much that he sent his only begotten so that whoever believes in him will have eternal life. However, in my book, life only after death is only partial life, not abundant life. Abundant eternal life starts now. Your abundant life began the moment you invited Jesus to be your Lord and surrendered your life to him. He is your life; he is your hope and he is your healing. With God, nothing is impossible. So, let’s hold onto life and not pre-empt the will of God by assisting suicide.
Read all about it! Get into the word of God and get the word of God into you. Deuteronomy 30:19, Exodus 20:13 (KJV), John 3:16 and Luke 1:37 Don’t give up, look up and pray! “In you, we hope. Today we choose life.”
“Dear God, I pray for all those dear people today who face a terminal diagnosis. I pray for hope and healing. You are the Lord who heals. Our lives are in your hands. I pray that your peace and hope will rest upon those whose loved ones are suffering today. I pray that your word and truth will prevail in their lives and that they will trust you will all their hearts and lean not on their own understanding. In you, we hope. Today we choose life. Amen.” — Born and raised in Johannesburg, South Africa Dudley Anderson began writing for radio in 1994.
