Regional and State Pecan Show Results

Comanche County pecan growers did very well at both the Regional and State pecan shows. If you have paid any attention at all you will have noticed all trees, including pecan trees, have taken a very bad hit the last few years. The extreme temperatures and drought conditions have cost us a lot of trees, even well-managed orchards lost lots of trees. The orchard owners went from trying to make pecans to trying to save trees. Certainly, this has not been a profitable position, and producers have struggled to stay out of the red for the last few years. Still, pecans are vital to our local economy, even with the challenges pecans accounted for over 12 million in sales in the county in 2024. This money is a shot in the arm to the county- most is used locally to pay utilities, supplies, labor, and taxes.

One way to help celebrate the pecan is through the pecan shows held in the state. It all starts with the county show, then the regional show, and the state show. The best pecans progress up the ladder all the way to the state show. Remember, we had terrible conditions and very limited irrigation water but still made some good pecans last year. The regional show was held back in April, and the state show was held in conjunction with the Texas State Pecan Conference in July. All these pecans started at and placed 1st or 2nd at the local county show just after harvest in December of 2024.
