Peanut Field Day and Apiary Management Program

To support agriculture producers and agriculture businesses in the area, Texas A&M Peanut specialists, the Comanche County Extension office, and our good cooperator Mark Allison have an excellent set of research trials for peanuts. We will be hosting a field day to view these trials and talk with some excellent specialist and producers about varieties, growing conditions/ challenges, disease and insect issues, new irrigation monitoring technology, and other topics that will be of interest to all ag producers.

The field day will be held this Thursday, September 26th, beginning at 10AM and running to approximately 2 PM. The field day will be held at the Mark Allison Farm, 1221 County Road 340- follow the signs when you get there. There will be 2 CEU’s, 1 IPM and 1 General offered at the field day and lunch will be sponsored by our great local sponsors. This is a field day, so bring a lawn chair if you don’t like to stand for very long.

This is always an excellent field day with the opportunity to see up close and first-hand variety and agronomic research that is applicable to our growing conditions.

Apiary Management Program The next bi-monthly Apiary Management Program will be held on Tuesday, September 24th at the DeLeon City Hall at 6:30 pm. We will have Chris Davenport, a Texas Master Beekeeper and owner of Longhollow Ranch Honey in Mills County coming to talk about fall apiary management. This should be a very interesting program and an opportunity to visit with other beekeepers in the area. Please be sure to get the meeting on your calendar and bring anyone you think might be interested. We hope you can make it and bring a friend.

Please call the office at: 325-356-2539 if you have questions or would like more information on these or other local extension programs.
