Healthy Aging Month is observed during the month of September. This observance raises awareness on the physical and mental health of older adults and serves as a reminder that as we age, our minds and bodies change. It is important to maintain a healthy lifestyle to help deal with those changes and to help prevent some common age-related health problems. It is never too late to take control of your health and it is never too late to get started on something new in life.
In conjunction with Healthy Aging Month the Comanche County Texas A&M AgriLife Extension office will be offering a “Healthy Senior Series”. We have an excellent line-up of speakers that will cover a variety of topics ranging from health to cooking demonstrations. The series will be every Tuesday from 2:30 until approximately 4:30 at the City Hall in DeLeon, (please note this location change). There is no fee, and everyone is invited to attend the programs.
Here is a quick look at what we will be offering during the series: September 3rd-Alzheimer’s Association will cover- “10 Healthy Habits for Your Brain & Body.”
September 10th-Comanche County Medical Center“Navigating Health Care Through Your Senior Years”.
September 17th- Dr. Childers from AccelHealth will be talking about- “Lifestyle Changes, Supplements, and other Helpful Things”.
September 24th- Texas A&M AgriLife Agent Andrea Brooks will have an excellent presentation and cooking demonstration- “Healthy Cooking Demonstration”.
This is an extremely interesting and upbeat series; all these speakers are excellent in their respective fields and will have some great information to share with everyone. The observance of Healthy Aging month’s activities is designed to encourage people to rejuvenate and get going on positive measures that can impact the areas of physical, social, financial and mental wellness.
