New World Screwworm Program
The New World Screwworm (NWS) has made it to Texas and has been found pretty close to us- just about 2 hours down the road in Tom Green County. We have been talking about and having meetings about screwworm for a couple of years now, but now that it is actually a very close threat, there is a greater sense of urgency. We are getting more answers on how an outbreak in the county or area might be handled.
The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension office along with the County Emergency Management officials have scheduled a program to help you get answers to any questions you may have about the NWS. The program will be held on Tuesday, July 7th at 3:00 P.M. at the Comanche Community Center. We have Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Entomologist Dr. Sonja Swiger and Texas Animal Health Commission Regional Director, Dustin Dorris, DVM as speakers for this program. These two are the most knowledgeable folks around on the NWS. They will cover NWS basics, identification, treatments, transportation, quarantines, and other management and regulation topics. They will also be able to answer questions you may have.
There is no charge for the program, and we will be offering 2 IPM CEU’s. If you think you may be attending, please give us a call at (325)-356-2539.
