Next games critical for Lions

“The next two games are critical,” said Dublin Head Football Coach/Athletic Director Bob Cervetto.

The Dublin Lions are at 0-2 in District after a 47-7 loss to the Jacksboro Tigers on Friday night.

As often is the case, the score doesn’t tell the whole story of the game.

“I thought the kids played really inspired early on,” said Cervetto. “Our kids were resilient and battled the whole game.”

During the game, Kyler Madruga amassed 136 yards in rushing, Cooper Hubble racked up 104 yards and a touchdown in receiving and Christian Ramirez had 65 yards in receiving.

Cervetto expects the same fight to be evident on the home field Friday night as the Lions take on the 0-2 Merkel Badgers in a game that the Dublin coach calls “winnable.”

If the Lions can claim victory in the next couple of weeks, they can still secure a play-off bid.

Cervetto thinks the odds are good because his boys are ready to show the strength of Lion pride. He still expects a fight from the similarly-positioned Merkel.

“Our kids are going to play their hearts out all the way through,” he said, adding that some players have been added to the varsity ranks.

Kickoff will be 7 p.m. Friday on the Bob & Norma Cervetto field.

This game will be followed by an Oct. 30 home game against the Millsap Bulldogs and a Nov. 6 game in Eastland against the Mavericks.
