Mitchell raises funds for Mystic

As the DHS cheerleaders gathered in the gym for the Sept. 5 pep rally, they all had donned black shirts with a special design, standing in solidarity with the lives lost in the July 4th flooding at Camp Mystic in the Kerville county area.

The shirts were designed by senior cheerleader Emma Mitchell who felt moved to design and sell them with funds going directly to Camp Mystic for the area as they try to heal and rebuild.

She sold 84 shirts and raised nearly $1,000 for the cause.

“Around 138 lives were lost during this horrific event,” Mitchell said as she addressed the pep rally crowds. “Around 27 of the fatalities were young girls and counselors from Camp Mystic.”

“This camp has impacted many young lives,” she continued. “After hearing about the flooding later in the day on July 4 I wanted to go and help. Due to distance this wasn’t an option for me so instead I designed these shirts that we are wearing.”

“Thank you to those who bought a shirt and I greatly appreciate everyone with helping us honor the many lives that were lost on July 4, 2025,” Mitchell said.
