The Dublin Lions are getting a bye week to finesse their game before district starts against Brady Oct. 11.

The Dublin football boys will be taking some lessons and growth from the Sept. 27 game against the Lindsay Knights into this training.

Although the game ended 65-25 in Lindsay’s favor, head football coach/athletic director Greg Hardcastle reported his Lions had several points to praise.

“We started out really well,” Hardcastle said. “We hung right there with them the first half. Then we had kind had a lull right there in the third quarter, couldn’t pull first downs.”

Rey Chacon did well stretching his legs as he went 2 for 2 in PAT kicks and scored the first field goal of the season.

Fernando Esparza showed prowess with 58 yards in rushingincludingatouchdown and a successful 2 point conversion play.

Quarterback Kaden Gaitan provided good support to his team with 197 passing yards and two interceptions.

Alex Teten led the Lions in receiving with 61 yards including a touchdown play. Francisco Garcia followed closed with 55 yards of receiving.

Hardcastle said the Lions will capitalize on the bye week, working on techniques and fundamentals before facing the Brady Bulldogs. The extra week will also give Lions a chance to fill out the bench with injured players getting healthy enough for the Friday Night Lights.

The Lions will host the Bulldogs Friday, Oct. 11 at 7 p.m. for the beginning of district play.
