Lions season starts at home
“Here we go!”
So said Dublin ISD Athletic Director Bob Cervetto in relation to the 2019 Dublin Lions football season, which opens Friday, Aug. 30 at 7:30 p.m. at Dublin memorial stadium when Dublin takes on the Hico Tigers.
Cervetto is excited for the match-up, saying it should be full of surprises.
“Coach [Randy] Thornton is a very hard-working coach,” Cervetto said of the Hico AD. “I’m intrigued to see what [plays] he comes up with. He doesn’t like to show his strategy in scrimmages.”
This means that the home team will have to be reactive when they hit the field Friday night.
Cervetto’s planning ahead though.
“We’ll have a couple of options lined up,” he said.
In addition to crafting a game plan against the Tigers, Cervetto and his staff have been working to address trouble spots seen in Thursday’s scrimmage against Clyde.
Cervetto said it was a good scrimmage with some bright moments thanks to Dakota Wilson, Tyler Harrell and Kyler Madruga, who performed some solid runs up the field.
“This was a big test for our young guys,” Cervetto said. “We noticed a lot of things to test and correct. We get those ironed out and we’re in good shape.”
