The Dublin Lions are looking for a win Friday as they host Millsap at 7 p.m. on Cervetto Field.
This follows a 68-14 opening loss Friday, Aug. 29 to the Bearcats at DeLeon.
“I thought the kids played really hard,” said athletic director/head football coach Greg Hardcastle, praising the Lions’ tenacity even as the gap climbed and they faced a couple of injuries.
HardcastlenotedDeLeon’s experience in the face-off, reporting DeLeon has 16-18 seniors this year while Dublin is starting 5-6 sophomores.
Joe Salinas proved his utility in a variety of ways as he stepped in as quarterback and passed for 150 yards, carried two touchdowns in, rushed for 72 yards and had three tackles.
Huden Joslin led the Lion in receiving with 133 yards while Kyson Gilman had 17.
Defensively, Julian Caldera led in tackles with 8 followed by Hunter Splawn with 7. Joslin and Cayson Loving each had 6, Gilman had 5 and Edwin Nevarez brought down 4.
Hardcastle anticipated an equal match-up against a known Friday night as Millsap has well-established program with a young roster.
“They’re going to play physical,” he said. “We’ll just have to meet them. We’re continuing to get better every week.”
